Texas A&M University – Assistant Director - IT (College Station, TX)
The Assistant Director is responsible for the overall administration and management of the IT Support and IT Development Units within Transportation Services.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Manages large, complex, and critical IT projects, information systems, specialized technical areas, or portions of the University-wide IT services infrastructure and performs limited specialized technical duties in support of University-wide computing and/or network services.
Directs and manages the IT Development and IT Support Units for Transportation Services to include overall management of large, complex, and critical IT projects, information systems, specialized technical areas, or portions of the University-wide IT services infrastructure and performs limited specialized technical duties in support of University-wide computing and/or network services. Responsible for managing the budgets, training and long range planning for IT needs for both units.
Responsible for directing and managing all aspects of the IT Support and IT Development Units to include: planning, scheduling and monitoring staff; responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, coordinating and assigning work, determining staffing levels, and scheduling leave. Responsible for performance feedback reviews, annual evaluations, disciplinary actions and termination of employees within the unit. Ensures that staff are accomplishing their assigned duties. Provides the Executive Director and employees with operational feedback and implements IT related improvements. Coordinates with the management of the department regarding their IT needs from the various systems used.
Responsible for planning and managing the unit s budget. Responsible for creating and maintaining a positive work environment focused on customer service and dedicated to continuous improvement. Conducts long range planning activities and makes recommendations for improvements to the Executive Director. Directs and assists in the formulation, interpretation and implementation of departmental and unit goals, objectives and policies to ensure delivery of quality customer services. Promotes safety to assure that the unit follows policies and procedures. Responsible for maintaining audit controls within the unit. Oversees inventory reports and records retention for the unit. Serves on departmental and university committees and represents the department at various state and national associations. Represents the department at various meetings on campus. Serves as the property accountability officer for the unit.
Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Five years experience in progressively responsible positions including extensive supervisory and/or management experience in a business or information technology related field.
Master s degree in business or planning.
Eight to ten years experience in managing projects and multiple employees.
